We seek to be a church that is both faithful to the scriptural texts and the cultural contexts.
We want to live out the values we say we believe. In the Old Testament book Deuteronomy (6 and 8), God reminds His people, “When you get to the promised land, don’t forget who you are.” In the New Testament, the apostle Paul in I Corinthians 12:27, writes, “You are Christ’s body-that’s who your are! You must never forget this!”
Who we are is spelled out in our Vision and Mission Statements.
To see people COME to know the love of Jesus Christ and together BECOME passionate followers of Him.
As His passionate followers, our mission is to hear and respond to the CALL of the Loving God into an intimate and TRANSFORMING relationship with Jesus Christ; and to discover that we are uniquely GIFTED by Him for His glory; so that we can be EQUIPPED and trained; in order to be SENT into the world, reaching out, sharing the Good News in the power of His Holy Spirit.
CALLED TRANSFORMING GIFTED EQUIPPED SENT
South Suburban Christian Church (SSCC) is part of a denomination, Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with its origin on the American Frontier in the early 1800’s. The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) has attempted to increase respect and understanding among Christian believers of all denominations. Attempting to hold true to the teachings of Jesus and the practices of the New Testament churches, we hold to a Christian faith that is Biblically-based, Christ-centered, Spirit-empowered, intellectually sound, and servant-minded
AUTHORITY OF SCRIPTURE
The Bible – Old and New Testaments – are the inspired and authoritative Word of God and the complete revelation of His will for the world’s salvation through Jesus. They constitute the divine and only rule of Christian faith and practice.

There is one God, Who is infinitely perfect, existing eternally in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Jesus is both true God and true man. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He died upon the Cross – the Just for the unjust – as a once-never-to-be-repeated substitutionary sacrifice for the sin of the world. All who believe in Him are made right with God on the grounds of His shed blood. He rose from the dead according to the Scriptures, and is now at the right hand of the Father on high, as our great High Priest.

- Luke 1:35

- John 14:16-26
- John 16:5-11
We are brought, by grace through faith, into a saving relationship with God the Father, provided through Jesus Christ His Son. Those who repent (turn to God) and place their faith and trust in Jesus, receiving Him as Savior, declaring Him as Lord; are born again of the Holy Spirit; receive the gift of eternal Life, and become the children of God.

THE RETURN – SECOND COMING OF JESUS CHRIST
When the Lord Jesus returns to this earth it will be personal and visible. This is every believer’s blessed hope, and is a vital truth which is an incentive to holy living and faithful service. At His return there will be a bodily resurrection of both the just and the unjust.

BELIEVERS BAPTISM BY IMMERSION
We believe this is recognized as the most adequate symbol of complete surrender, and of the biblical ideal of death, burial, and resurrection to new Life in Christ. We do accept and recognize other forms of baptism from other Christian fellowships as being valid.
THE LORD’S SUPPER/HOLY COMMUNION
We observe this as part of our corporate worship every Sunday, and welcome all Christians from all denominations to participate.
…the principle of self-government for each local congregation, with the regional and general bodies serving in advisory capacities only.
…in and encourage interdenominational fellowship of Christians in worship, study, mission, and service. “We are not the only Christians – but Christians only.”
If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to contact our church office. God bless you on your journey of worshiping, connecting, and serving with other Christians as we seek to become more passionate followers of Jesus Christ.
